Hi folks... Once again, old Father Time (is that how the saying goes? or is it Father Christmas?) snuck by me and dropped off his good buddy FLIPPIN FREEZING WEATHER.I am a baby. It is cold. I bought earmuffs shaped like frogs. They make me happy, but not quite warm enough. My daily goal is to be warm and happy. Pretty common desire I suppose. Mike is in Australia as I type this- where it is SUMMER! I am so unworldly that it still just flips my brain over and gets me seven kinds of confused to think about summer in December. Every time I think about it, my kindergarten logic snaps to attention, saying, "But that's not what Miss French taught me! And that song about the seasons- well throw that out the window too!" (Oh I am so sad by the way- I don't think my kindergarten teacher's name was Miss French. I can't remember. This is a milestone for me. I always said I would make it in this world if I could name all my elementary school teachers no matter how old I got. I figured it's gotta count for something- having a mind like a steel trap. It's now a jello trap.) Mike is in for a shock when he returns. Here's another thing it took me, oh, my entire life to learn-that everyone else in the world uses the metric system! The US is just stubborn. We're like the one kid on the team that won't wear the damn jersy because we think the new one is ugly. And while I'm at it, our president reminds me of a small child playing the board game "RISK for small children" except it's all somehow real. He must have watched that movie War Games. How old was he in '83?.... That was my political rant for this entry.....back to Shanghai....... It's not New Year's yet, so I still haven't broken my resolution.(to speak chinese)It gets more and more embarrassing BY THE SECOND to live here and still sound like an infant to the Chinese people. I have learned how to say, "My chinese is no good." That's a whole sentence! I am excited to start learning the language when I get back in February from the States. Mike and I are going back to Thailand for New Year's! I can't wait! After that I will be in California and Arkansas for the month of January. So y'all get ready for lots of bear hugs and belly laughs. I wish everyone a happy and warm day! "wo da jongren boo hao", (i think that might say 'my Chinese is not good' but I'm not sure how to spell 'Chinese'...Any smartypants out there feel free to correct me.) Julie
