Mike Pelino left yesterday for his tour with Green Day and I am sad.:(. Shanghai just got a whole lot bigger. And boring. Mike is a funny guy. He makes Shanghai seem very amusing, and now I have to rely on my own tepid humor to make it through the days. My new favorite Shanghai game is "Guess that Country." I go to a crowded place where tourists/foreigners are known to frequent, and watch people. I pick out a herd of foreigners (we seem to travel in packs) and try to figure out what country they are from. After I have made my choice, I stalk the foreigners until I hear an accent or a language. Then I try to figure out if I was right or anywhere near the right country. The only problem with this game is that it is a stupid game and I am never right. I can spot Americans a mile away, but that's it. We are loud and rude. I appreciate being wrong though- it reminds me how off-target people's first-impressions can sometimes be. There are also so many foreigners here from countries I've never heard of and most definitely can't recognize their langauge. So why do I play this game? It's a little bit rude and I'm sure I look like a crazy person while playing my game, and it has no value whatsoever other than to occupy my time. It's better than TV I guess. I am rambling again. I apologize. This will probably be my last entry until I meet up with Mike in London in a week. He has the camera, the computer, and all neccessary cords needed to make the two interact and put diaryland entries and pictures up on the internet. I know y'all are so very upset by this. I can't really do personal things on the computer at school, so unless anything really really exciting happens -like a gang of panda bears invading the city- you won't hear from me until I get to London. I might let y'all know if I correctly identify a foreigner's homeland-if you're lucky. I am going to try to get him to add a few entries to this diary while he's on tour- we'll see what happens. (not sure if I want to know what he's up to, to tell the truth:) ) I only have 5 more days of teaching school. Hooray! Y'all take care, and thanks for reading my diary and adding comments. I'll be back to diaryland soon-(seriously, stop crying!!)
xoxo, Julie
