Mike and I moved into our new apratment and it so beautiful. Remember the pretend pictures i sent? It's still that pretty. We live in XiaJuaHui Gardens. It's a huge complex with about 7 or 8 buildings. They told us we would be living in a brand new apartment building, and I thought "yipee!!" new stuff, shiny floors, blah, blah, blah...I did'nt stop to think that the deal would include the melodiuos (is that a word?) sounds of contruction. All the time. Day and night. And I think these workers have actually found that 8th day that the Beatles enjoyed so much, and they do a whole lot of hammering on that day too. I want everyone to fully understand our circumstances. If you have ever lived in a building that was absolutely, completely under construction, I light a candle for you and say a little prayer-yall know what I mean. To everyone else, let me elaborate. We live on the 20th floor, right in the middle. There are apartments on both sides of us, above us,and below us. Ours is the only one of the lot that is inhabited by rent-payers. The others are in various stages of contruction. I will admit that the Chinese are very efficient when it comes to constuction, though. Workers sleep and eat on the jobsite. Why fool with going home when you've got to go back to work in 2 minutes? Very smart, these guys. And friendly. And LOUD. They start at 6:00 am on the dot, and go until about 11:00 pm. We get it from all sides. Sometimes I think someone in Constructionland is toying with me. They get to beating on some sort of pipe or something, and I swear it sounds like Jingle Bells. Or maybe I am slowly going mad. Either way, they are sounds for sore ears. Last night in the bathroom above us, the Dozers ( that what i call the workers...from Fraggle Rock, remember? Those little guys just kept building and building and building...) busted a pipe and covered our bathroom with lots and lots of water. Fun times. I don't even need an alarm. You WILL be wide awake and ready to beat the tar out of someone at 6:00 am. At least I am every day. Mike is immune. He sleeps right through it. He says its because he is a mature adult that it doesn't bother him or wake him, but I think he has to be a tad bit hard of hearing. How can he sleep through it??? How??? Oh yeah, and you know all those nice city ordinances most of yall enjoy? Like no contruction if it's the middle of the freaking night? Or anything having to do with "No dropping really heavy beams repeatedly for no apparent reason on Julie's roof at 6:00 am on a Saturday?" Nope, nothing like that exists here. Good bye sleeping in...sniff, sniff.Sometimes I feel like being real mean. I know they sleep at some point in the night. One night, during those 12 minutes, I want to grab a hammer and start banging on their door. But that is mean, and I am nice. They are only doing their job. I just wish they did not do their job so much or so loud. I am almost used to it. Wait, there I go again. Sometimes I just type things for the fun of it. I am in no way used to the racket that is my domicle, nor will ever be. No worries, though. Like I said, the Chinese are efficient. By the time some of yall read this, the workers will have moved on to their next project, and I will be in peaceful slumber. And I will have the need again for an alarm clock.
